SAUGUS POP WARNER TRAVELS TO NEW
HAMPSHIRE
TO PLAY FRIENDSHIP GAME

Players and families from Saugus Pop Warner Football Organization had a
fun filled overnight adventure over the past weekend travelling to
Amherst, New Hampshire to take on the Kingsbury Lancers.
The weekend started off with a bang at the residence Marriott
Inn in Merrimack, New Hampshire culminating with an enormous potluck
dinner and lots of fun and activities for the players and families. The
kids were very busy with swimming, basketball, manhunt, and of
course…..Football!
The next morning players and families woke up to a
complimentary hot buffet breakfast with more games and swimming
poolside.
As game time drew near, a wave of red, black and white began
to emerge from rooms all over the complex as the players suited up to
prepare for the big game in 90 degree weather. Emotions were high and
the excitement shown all over these young men’s faces as they entered
their vehicles to drive to the field.
As the C-Squad Sachems marched single file onto the
playing field, there was a look of pride, determination, and comradeship
on every face. They played valiantly despite the 90+degree heat and the
late hour of the game.
As the players walked off the field covered in dust,
their helmets scarred with the green paint of the New Hampshire team,
the same question was being asked by players and families both…”Can we
do this again next year????” The weekend was a success and the spirit of
Saugus Pop Warner Football continues on...

Hudak Campaign Maintains
Fundraising Momentum with
$95,696 in Pre-Primary Contributions
Hudak Raises More Funds To-date than any Other Massachusetts Republican
Congressional Candidate
The campaign committee of Bill Hudak,
www.hudakforcongress.com,
candidate for U.S. Congress in the Massachusetts 6th Congressional
District, today announced that the strong fundraising momentum achieved
in the first and second quarters of 2010 continued during the shortened,
summer “pre-primary” period, with $95,696 in total contributions
according to the committee’s August 25 FEC Form 3 Report . This includes
in-kind contributions from the candidate of $18,845. To date, the
campaign has raised $577,192, more than any other Republican candidate
running for Congress in Massachusetts.
Bill Hudak continues to outpace Congressman John Tierney in
contributions from individuals. According to the committee’s August 25
FEC Form 3 Report, Tierney’s campaign reported $75,475 in total
contributions for the period, with $62,460 from individuals and $8,000
from special interest PACs. Hudak’s lone Republican challenger, Robert
McCarthy, reported total contributions of $2,188 for the period, and his
remaining $1,357 cash on hand is less than the $3,277 debt owed by his
campaign.
“We’re gratified that so many individuals have come forward to support
our campaign, particularly during the height of the summer vacation
season,” said Bill Hudak. “This fundraising momentum is a clear sign
that our message is resonating among voters who are fed up with
entrenched, unresponsive politicians in Washington, like Congressman
John Tierney (http://tierney.house.gov/), and who want to see our
country get back on track generating jobs and economic prosperity.
Thanks to all of our supporters across the 6th District of
Massachusetts, our campaign is strongly positioned for the upcoming
primary on September 14, and the general election in November.”

Massachusetts League of
Environmental Voters Endorses Representative Mark Falzone
in the 9trh Essex House
Race
MLEV Cites Rep Falzone’s Excellent Record on
Environmental Issues
Boston, MA--
The Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters (MLEV), the
non-partisan political voice for the environment, announced
its endorsement of Representative Mark Falzone, citing his
strong commitment to environmental issues that affect both
the commonwealth and the Lynnfield, Wakefield, Saugus, and
Lynn.
“We are
happy to endorse Representative Mark Falzone for
re-election,” said Massachusetts League of Environmental
Voters Executive Director, Lora Wondolowski. “Mark has been
a strong environmental leader since his days in Saugus High
School, where he was an active member of SAVE (Saugus Action
Volunteers for the Environment). As a legislator, Mark has
led the fight against new incinerators in his district,
helping ensure air quality and the health of his
constituents. We look forward to continuing to work with
Representative Falzone in the next legislative session as he
continues to fight for increased recycling and the clean
energy jobs that are critical to our reviving economy.”
In the last
legislative session, Representative Falzone worked with
House leadership on environmental issues and consistently
voted in favor of new environment protections.
Representative Falzone has prioritized continuing to work to
promote recycling and a moratorium on new incinerators in
the commonwealth.
Representative Falzone emphasized,
“I am fighting everyday to protect our environment, and I am
extraordinarily pleased to receive the endorsement of
Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters. With this
recognition and the support it brings I have now been
endorsed by every major environmental organization in
Massachusetts including the Sierra Club and Clean Water
Action. I will continue to dedicate myself to keep the
moratorium on new trash incinerators, promote recycling,
encourage wind, solar and other environmentally beneficial
energy sources, protect us from climate change, increase
green jobs, and remove toxic chemicals from our environment.
In addition to legislation codifying the incinerator
moratorium, I have filed two additional bills, one to
require that producers of mercury-added lamps fund a
recycling program, and another to provide incentives for
reuse and recycling waste disposal programs. I will also
continue to support an expanded Bottle Bill and bills to
adequately deal with E-Waste. Radon, Green Transportation,
and sustainable Green Jobs are all high on my agenda for the
next legislative session. As a strong advocate for the
environment I greatly appreciate the support of
environmental activists, and look forward to all possible
assistance as I head into the Primary on September 14th, and
General Election on November 2nd.”

Two Friends Raise Funds for The Angel Fund’s Walk of Hope for ALS
Walk to be held on September 11th in Wakefield
(Wakefield, MA) – It started as a brief hello at a Fenway Park o
uting
on Lou Gehrig’s Day in 2001 and has evolved into a strong bond of
friendship and a fierce loyalty for a mutual cause for two local men.
What has strengthened the friendship and developed that camaraderie
between Harvey Eisenberg and Harry Cunningham during the last nine years
is an even stronger commitment to finding a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s
Disease), the disease that made both of them widowers in 1998 and 2000,
respectively.
To look at Harvey and Harry as they gently banter back and forth, is to
look at two men who may not seem compatible on the outside, but are as
connected as any two friends can be.
Harvey Eisenberg and Harry Cunningham
According to Harry, he became actively involved in the fight to find a
cure and to help raise awareness for ALS after watching and listening to
Harvey raise money for ALS research and ALS patient care for various
organizations, including The Angel Fund.
And it was that one meeting at Fenway that convinced Harry to open his
wallet – and his heart – to finding a cure for ALS, a disease that not
only claimed the life of his wife, Jo, but his sister-in-law. Harvey’s
wife June died of ALS, as did her mother. Like Harry, Harvey’s family
has the familial ALS gene.
“Now when Harvey says we need to get involved in an ALS event, whether
financially or personally, I just follow his lead,” Harry said. Both
have been major sponsors of the walk t-shirts, sporting the J-Team logo,
in memory of June Eisenberg and Jo Cunningham, for the past seven years.
Now the crusade has been taken up by other members of the Eisenberg,
Johnston and Cunningham families whose own good-natured competitiveness
has launched a friendly challenge at the September 11th Walk of Hope for
ALS, a walk that benefits The Angel Fund and ALS research.
This year, the sea of purple June’s Joggers t-shirts sported by the
Eisenberg family will have competition from the Johnston team who will
be wearing t-shirts designed by Harry’s grandsons Sean Cunningham and
Tim Perkins.
It’s a friendly rivalry, but a deep respect for the common goal to find
a cure for the disease that has taken the lives, or threatens to take
the lives, of family members.
Although the two have a quick wit that is often used at the expense of
the other, both Harvey and Harry become somber when the subject of
finding a cure for ALS is brought up.
“We’re both committed to finding a cure, and we’re in it for the long
haul,” Harvey said.
“That’s because we need to find a cure for this dreaded disease,” Harry
added.
To join them in their goal to find a cure through research, please join
them at the 9th annual Walk of Hope for ALS to benefit The Angel Fund, a
501 (c)(3) independent charity that benefits ALS research at the Cecil
B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at the UMass Medical Center
under the direction of Dr. Robert H. Brown, Jr., a world-renowned
researcher in the field of ALS.
The 3.5-mile walk around Lake Quannapowitt will be held on Saturday,
September 11th 2010 with a rain date of Sunday, September 12th. The
event begins with registration at 9 a.m. followed by the start of the
walk at 11 a.m. In addition to the walk around Lake Quannapowitt, the
event includes children’s activities and refreshments for all walkers.
Walkers of all abilities are encouraged to participate as individuals or
as a team. To register as a walker or to register a team, please call
The Angel Fund at 781-245-7070, or log-on to the organization’s website

THE BEACON
By Representative Mark Falzone
IT’S ALL ABOUT JOBS
SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM TRAINS MACHINISTS SO 90% GET GOOD LOCAL
JOBS
Jobs are the priority issue in these difficult economic
times. Jobs give us the money to support our families, and
jobs give our communities the resources for schools, public
safety, roads, senior centers, libraries, and our water and
sewer systems. As I met with thousands of our neighbors, we
frequently spoke together about their fears and concerns to
find jobs and to avoid being laid off, to pay for mortgages
and rent and to avoid foreclosures, to afford healthcare and
to pay for college, and to provide for a secure retirement
which for so many of us seems to keep slipping away. Jobs
are the very best social program we have. Jeff Crosby, an
expert on jobs, was the recent guest on my cable TV show,
“The Beacon.” He is a union leader whose mission in life is
to support the creation of good jobs that provide for secure
healthcare and retirement.
Jeff Crosby has been a recognized leader in
organized labor for two decades, and he is respected locally
and throughout Massachusetts for his thoughtful
contributions and hard work on behalf of the working men and
women of our community. Mr. Crosby has served 19 years as
the president of the local union at GE where my father
worked, IUE-CWA Local 201, and for 18 years has led the
North Shore Labor Council, a coalition of local unions
established to advance the labor movement in our region and
work for good jobs at good wages with good benefits. On The
Beacon we spoke about the E-TEAM Program which I supported
in the Legislature,
The E-TEAM is a training
program for new machinists and prepares people in our
community for jobs in metal working. The program started
from conversations between unions and local faith-based
groups who recognized the need for jobs that could provide
adequate family support. Their research showed that many
local companies needed trained machinists and that such a
skilled labor force would help them stay and expand in our
community. With the assistance of state funding, the E-TEAM
selectively recruited those who could benefit from the
intensive, months-long training with expert instructors and
cutting-edge equipment. The results have been tremendous.
So far nearly 90% of the graduates from the program got jobs
in metal working, companies in our region gratefully found
workers whose skills they needed, and as one woman said, “I
was unemployed with no prospects and now, through the
E-TEAM, I have a future with a good job I can count on.”
The E-TEAM has proven that a thoughtful jobs program given
support by the state can be a great asset to our community
and local economy.
Jobs have been my first priority, and I have
supported a number of job-producing initiatives in the
Legislature. I have worked successfully for job training
and retraining programs, and helped reduce job-killing
healthcare and other expenses for small businesses. My
efforts have helped build up our infrastructure which
creates construction jobs and makes our area more attractive
to business, and I have also supported other targeted
investments in job-producing sectors of our economy where we
insist upon accountability, transparency, and results.
Jobs are my major focus locally, where I have
been instrumental in initiating support for new commercial
development along Route 1 and at Meadow Walk on the
Wakefield-Lynnfield line. Through a financial partnership
with the Massachusetts School Build Authority, an agency I
helped to create, our local communities of Lynn, Lynnfield,
Saugus and Wakefield all have school building projects
supported with state funds, projects that provide local
construction jobs and enhance local education. Local jobs
were also created for the cleanup of Lake Quannapowitt and
Sluice and Flax Ponds, and for the road construction work on
the Lynn Fells Parkway and scheduled for Lynnfield Street.
A major construction project producing many jobs will be the
removal of the water pipes under Route 1, the funds for
which I got through the Legislature and signed into law and
which now only await release by the governor.
Jeff Crosby also
mentioned the importance of investing in education for job
creation. Whether K-12 or our system of community and state
colleges and universities, education provides the skills
needed for future employment and makes Massachusetts an
exceptionally attractive place to do business. I have
supported our schools at every level, twice reformed the
Chapter 70 school aid formula to benefit us locally, and I
have led the fight for the other education system, our
libraries. As founder and chairman of the Legislative
Library Caucus I successfully supported libraries because I
know that they in turn support the enhancement of job
skills, provide access to computers and databases that help
job seekers and small businesses, provide research tools to
help entrepreneurs get started, and assist those who have
been laid off or are looking for their first job to produce
high-quality resumes.
It’s all about jobs. In
this difficult economy Jeff Crosby and I are both working
full-time to deliver real results for job creation and job
security.

Differences Emerge in State Rep Debate
By Phil Lacolla
Press Secretary
Clear differences emerged in tonight’s debate between the two Democratic
candidates for the 9th Essex State Representative seat. In Wakefield’s
Galvin Middle School auditorium, Anthony Guardia and incumbent Mark
Falzone fielded questions from local reporters about state aid to local
towns, the unemployment rate, and casinos. Quickly and adamantly,
Guardia voiced that he is running because he can do more than Falzone
has done in his 10 years in office.
“Over the past ten years have things gotten better or worse?” Mr.
Guardia asked, citing his dismay at the deterioration of school
buildings and infrastructure, as well as the district’s unemployment
rate.
While Falzone often defended his work on Beacon Hill, Guardia pointed
out that some of the very policies Falzone said he was a part of
creating have led to the district’s problems. Guardia mentioned the lack
of leadership on Route One’s water pipe woes, as well as flawed Chapter
70 funding formulas. While Falzone took credit for advancing changes in
local aid distribution, Guardia pointed out that of Massachusetts’ 351
cities and towns , there are still 58 underfunded and two---Saugus and
Wakefield---are in Falzone’s district.
“This is unjustifiable,” Guardia said.
Following the debate, Guardia was greeted in the school’s lobby by his
applauding supporters. He said he felt positive that voters would see a
change in leadership was needed. He addressed several questions posed to
him, but felt strongly that he and Falzone are running with different
intentions.
“Mr. Falzone said he asks himself if he is having fun before he decides
to run for reelection and came to the conclusion that he was. While I am
happy he is ‘having fun,’ I am running so that I can be effective and
bring real leadership to a district that is in need of true
representation on Beacon Hill.”

REPRESENTATIVE FALZONE GETS
MAJOR LABOR ENDORSEMENTS
Massachusetts AFL-CIO and North Shore Labor Council Support Falzone
Reelection
Representative Mark Falzone has become the candidate of
working men and women and their families in the election for state
representative in Lynn, Lynnfield, Saugus, and Wakefield. With major
labor union endorsements announced this week from the Massachusetts
AFL-CIO and from the North Shore Labor Council, Falzone has secured the
most significant support from organized labor heading into the September
14th Democratic Primary.
Representative Falzone emphasized, "Working
families know I am fighting every day for jobs. Job creation is my
number one priority. Jobs are what enable our working men and women to
support their families, and jobs are what empower us with the resources
for education, healthcare, public safety, environmental protection, and
infrastructure. I'm extraordinarily pleased to have this recognition
from such important unions who labor year in and year out for working
families in our community, and I am honored by the support of their
endorsements."
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO is an organization of workers
to promote the interests of workers in the Commonwealth. They are the
most authoritative voice for all working people in the state, both those
in unions and those not yet organized. All told, the Massachusetts
AFL-CIO encompasses over 750 affiliated unions which directly represent
400,000 organized union members.
Robert Haynes, President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO,
said, “Mark Falzone has been an outstanding fighter for working men and
women and their families, fighting for jobs, education and healthcare.
We are pleased to give him our endorsement in this important election
year, and encourage all those who care about and benefit from the
efforts and successes of the labor movement, to come out and vote for
Mark Falzone on September 14th and again on November 2nd.”
The North Shore Labor Council is a coalition of 50
local unions representing more than 18,000 workers and their families on
the North Shore. They help elect pro-working family candidates to public
office.
Jeff Crosby, President of the North Shore Labor Council
and of Local 201 IUE-CWA (GE union), said, “Mark Falzone has been an
exceptional and consistent friend to working men and women and their
families. No one works harder for job creation in our community. We
should do everything we can to assure that he continues to represent us
in the Legislature. In particular, I urge all of us to support Mark with
our votes on September 14th and again on November 2nd.”
Falzone's district consists of portions of Lynn, Lynnfield,
Saugus and Wakefield. The Democratic Primary is September 14th, and the
general election is November 2nd.
Congressional Candidate Bill Hudak Calls
for the White House Economic Team to Leave and Tax Cuts to Remain
Bill Hudak, www.hudakforcongress.com, candidate for U.S. Congress in the
Massachusetts 6th Congressional District, today issued the following
statement calling on President Obama to ask for, and accept, the
resignations of the senior members of his economic team, starting with
Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner and Director of the National
Economic Council, Lawrence Summers.
“Whether you operated a small or large business, if your financial
advisors had failed as miserably as those who are directing this
economy, it would make good business sense to terminate those
relationships,” said Bill Hudak. “I agree with House Minority Leader
John Boehner in his recent speech calling for the resignation of the
president’s top economic advisors and a new economic approach for this
nation.”
“After 19 months on the job, President Obama’s current economic advisors
have failed to address the longest period of severe unemployment in
modern history, the unsustainable national debt, the disappearance of
credit for small businesses and the housing market freefall. Clearly,
the Administration needs a new economic team focused on job creation,
debt reduction and a return to robust growth for America.”
“Further, the Administration’s current plans to raise taxes on families
and small businesses during this recession is a recipe for economic
disaster,” continued Hudak. “Indeed, under the president’s proposals,
virtually every American will see their taxes go up on January 1, 2011.
This is why I have consistently called for the extension of the 2001 and
2003 tax cuts, the repeal of which would result in the largest tax
increase in U.S. history. I call upon the president to not impose these
job-killing tax hikes on families and small businesses.”
“The president’s proposed tax plans create a particularly acute
situation for small businesses, historically the job creation engine of
the U.S. economy. According to an analysis by the non-partisan Joint Tax
Committee, Congress’s official tax scorekeeper, more than half of small
business income in America would face higher taxes under the president’s
plans. This is unacceptable and flies in the face of common sense.”
“President John F. Kennedy once said that ‘an economy constrained by
high tax rates will never produce enough revenue to balance the budget,
just as it will never create enough jobs.’ That was true during JFK’s
time, and it is equally true today.”
“Also, there are rumblings from the Democrat-controlled Congress that
the so-called lame duck session provides the opportunity to ram through
a series of bills that would further negatively impact our economy,”
said Hudak. “In light of this threat, the President also should announce
that he will veto these measures sent in desperation to his desk by a
lame-duck Congress.”
“I call on my opponent, Congressman John Tierney (http://tierney.house.gov/)
to pledge that during the 2010 lame-duck session he will vote against
the passage of legislation harmful to the middle-class, including: ‘card
check’; a national energy tax; and any other job-killing tax increases
on families and small businesses,” concluded Hudak.

Jim McKenna announces candidacy for
Attorney General in Massachusetts. "Jim For AG"
August 1, 2010: SUTTON- James McKenna is aiming to defeat Martha Coakley
in the race for Attorney General.
McKenna is planning on formerly announcing his candidacy for
Massachusetts Attorney General on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 3 p.m. at
Waters Farm in Sutton, Mass. His campaign is built on fighting public
corruption and protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.
"Before a government can be effective, it needs to be trusted," says
McKenna.
McKenna argues that current Attorney General, Martha Coakley, is out of
touch with Massachusetts voters on prominent issues, including
prosecuting government corruption, illegal immigration and fraud.
"She has been more focused on prosecuting Garden Clubs than with the
lawmakers stuffing bribes down their shirts," says McKenna. "No Attorney
General should ever look the other way on political corruption. There
cannot be one set of laws for Government Officials and another set for
the rest of us. No one is above the law!"
McKenna worked as a prosecutor for 10 years, serving in three different
offices during this time. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in
the Organized Crime Division of the Suffolk County District Attorney's
office for three years, prosecuting public corruption and organized
crime in Boston. In addition, McKenna also served for six years as an
Assistant District Attorney in the Worcester County District Attorney's
office, which included two years as supervisor of the Grand Jury Unit.
He began his work as a prosecutor by serving in the Civil Division of
the Franklin County (Ohio) Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
In the first 10 days of this write-in campaign, he has received
overwhelming grassroots support. He has gained over 100 volunteers,
2600+ Facebook supporters, and his website, JimForAG.com, has hundreds
of visitors each day. On September 14, he needs 10,000 Republican and
unenrolled voters to write in his name, Jim McKenna, under Attorney
General in order to appear on the November ballot against Martha Coakley.
McKenna aims to bring justice and trust back to Massachusetts. "This
campaign is our campaign," says McKenna. "It is a campaign of the
people, for the people. A vote for Jim McKenna for Attorney General is a
vote to stop government corruption."
